If you, like me, are worried about whether it will work with your model or not, just eyeball it. I suspect that if your existing ice maker unit looks very similar to this, you're probably OK. Kenmore, Whirlpool, and who knows how many other brands all use the same core mechanism. Which makes sense - there's no point in reinventing the wheel for every fridge, and it makes it cheaper/easier for them to service.I have a 14-year-old (or so) Whirlpool model ED5THAXMS00 - its ice bin is in the door, not a drawer inside the freezer. So my machine's ice tray is parallel with the face of the door, it does not go front-to-back like many others. I don't know what went wrong with it; I think the ice ejector motor just locked up or burned out.So as you look at the photo of this, see how the white plastic lower edge, along the front, is at a 45-degree angle? Well, instead of a sloped front, like this, mine is flat. I realized that this model would not fit, as-is and I was about to box it back up. But, upon closer inspection, I realized I could swap out the front white plastic plate from my old one into the new assembly easily. It's the exact same basic mechanism, with the exact same dimensions. So I had to dismantle the motor housing (the black plastic part in the photo - it's 3 screws), and removed the sloped plate, and swapped in the flat front plate from the old one. Perfect fit. Took 5 extra minutes, if that. Also, my fridge has a light sensor across the door frame that tells the machine when to make ice or not. If the bin is full, the light sensor is blocked, and it won't make more ice. This ice unit comes with a wire lever that "feels" if the bin is full or not. This is for the internal drawer type of ice maker. If you have the door bin with the light sensor, you can just remove that wire lever, it comes right off.Seeing as my fridge was so old, my wife was looking at new refrigerators. And after doing this repair, I gotta say there's nothing more satisfying than a DIY repair in which you spend $40 instead of $1000 or more! Heck, a service call from an appliance shop probably would have run $300 surely. Very happy with this purchase, it was a surprisingly easy fix, even for an appliance novice like myself.Wow that was easy. I have the Whirlpool Fridge WRS325FDAM02 Side by Side and after 2 years, the LED controller for the lights started strobing giving us our first clue that Whirlpool's quality and durability has diminished substantially. However, after replacing the LED light also purchased here on Amazon (can you imagine that the LED instead of a standard appliance bulb cost $211.49 and I found here on Amazon for $74.50) the ice maker failed. So here I am. Several things I think other customers will want to know. First, use some caution when removing your old one. It's pretty darned simple to do, just read the directions that come in the shipping carton, get your tools ready (for me it was a 1/4" drive ratchet, 1/4" socket, decent set of extensions, set of screw drivers, standard flat and Phillips screwdrivers, an X-acto knife and then you'll want a needle nose pliers. That's it basically.Top two screws loosen but don't remove... ice maker "hangs" on them. Bottom screw on the inside wall comes all the way out. Swing the ice maker sideways and sit on the opposite rail and carefully pull the wiring (pull that square front cover off to see where the wiring clips in, small screw driver will do nicely). Now all you need is to transfer the parts from the old to the new like the bottom grating and cut out the punch hole for the water (X-acto knife) and reinstall. Plug the fridge back in and wait 24 hrs for the ice to fill up.This ice maker was $153.49 at Whirlpool's website. Seriously? They want $32.09 just for the shut off arm. Yeah that wire that hangs down with the plastic spade on it. What?So I ordered this 2/10/2018 and it wasn't Prime (I am a Prime member) but it was free shipping. At first I think it was a week to 10 days but I was happy to find it at my door this morning. Took less than an hour to open the carton, gather tools, unplug the fridge, remove the old one, transfer parts to new, install, plug the fridge back in and put away my tools. Yeah, I need any more parts I'm coming right back to this vendor first. Fast delivery, fits like OEM, zero issues, perfect. We need more vendors like this one.Used this in a Kitchenaid 22cu ft FrostFree side by side fridge. The model number was different (all numbers), but I found several online sources that said these were the same. The only difficulty with replacement was removing the door flap so I could yank out the old one. Had my husband do that. Thanks to youtube, he was able to locate the plastic clip rather than the screws I was trying to remove. On to delivery day. This new ice maker arrived packed tight with no shifting in its box. Husband wasn't home so I went ahead and unpacked, compared to old one (a few differences on plastic teeth). Screw holes, electric port..everything seemed good. So I plugged in the electric relay from the old one (you'll need a new one if your fuse has popped; This maker didnt have the new relay). And then I set it in freezer, placed a few screws in and turned water on for temporary mount.Instructions say it may take up to 24 hrs for ice to begin. Within 2 hrs I heard the first ice cubes drop into the bucket. After a few more hours, we finished tightening screws and replaced all pieces. And we have a full ice bucket, even with us filling our glasses. So, for just around $50, we were able to get our ice maker operational. We bought this unit about 4 years ago, and it installed and worked fine. But while doing a clean out on the refrigerator & freezer, we pulled out the icemaker to make sure it was clean too. Glad we did, because the coated/painted ice mold where the cubes are formed had lost half the coating into our ice cubes over the years. Who knows how much paint/coating we have ingested & digested due to this garbage. Don't buy one like this unless they change the product, or unless you like eating small particles of unknown paint/coating in your ice cubes........On time delivery as promised and working great. Wife was happy with ice drinks again to stifle the summer heat but after 3 weeks, it died.
